Partnerships
for Real-World
At FTC Northern, we believe the best way to learn design is by doing it. That’s why our program partners with real companies, brands, and cultural institutions to give students hands-on experience beyond the classroom. From internships to live client projects, students collaborate on professional-level design work that prepares them for the creative industry from day one. Past partnerships include fashion brands, media organizations, nonprofit campaigns, and more, offering valuable opportunities to build portfolios and make industry connections.
Students Say...
I was deeply touched by the professors’ dedication and selfless support. Their thoughtful teaching has helped me gain useful skills and a better sense of visual beauty.
Sophomore, ’28
I have learned a lot, not only from my professors but also from my peers. I believe the people and the environment have contributed greatly to my growth, as I always find support and constructive feedback on my work. It is an open and nurturing environment for growth, but the desire to take advantage of it must come from within oneself.
Junior, ’27
The graphic design professors genuinely care about our growth and future beyond graduation. The courses are thoughtfully designed for students from all backgrounds, creating a supportive environment that helps us thrive creatively and professionally.
Alumni, ’25
At Northern FTC, the small class sizes make a big difference. It’s easy to ask professors questions and really be part of the discussion. They’re super supportive, adjust to our pace, and always encourage creative thinking. It’s a great place to grow your confidence as a designer.
Junior, ’27
The professors genuinely care, they always slipping me opportunities like little creative side quests that quietly push me to grow, explore, and get involved. Through that, I’ve come to see that design isn’t just about making things pretty, but about making things matter: solving problems, telling stories, and contributing to something bigger than myself.
Sophomore, ’28
Our school’s Graphic Design program provides a solid visual communication foundation, combining creativity and technical skills. We learn about branding, typography, design thinking, and more.
Alumni, ’24
Studying graphic design has allowed me to learn many different skills. Besides creating visually appealing ads, posters, books, and brand logos, I’ve also taken hands-on classes in photography and videography.
Sophomore, ’27
I think the design courses here are really practical. A lot of what we learn in class can actually be applied during internships. Since our class sizes are small, the teachers really pay attention to each student’s work and give us a lot of one-on-one guidance. I’ve learned so much from that
Junior, ’26
These courses prepare me for real-world success in the creative industries through dedicated faculty and hands-on projects.

Q&A
Do I need an art background to study graphic design?
No formal art background is required. A good sense of aesthetics and creativity is helpful, and we start teaching from the basics.
Do I need to know how to draw?
Not necessarily. Traditional drawing is not required—what matters more is creative thinking and the ability to communicate visually. While hand-drawing skills are helpful, our focus is on developing strong design concepts and visual communication.
What careers can I pursue after graduation?
Graduates can work in branding, UI/UX design, advertising, editorial design, packaging, web design, motion graphics, and more.
What software will I learn?
You’ll learn Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects. For web and UI design, we use Figma and WordPress. You’ll also be introduced to Blender for 3D design and motion graphics.
Are there internship or real-world project opportunities?
Yes! Starting in the sophomore summer, students can intern with real companies. We also include client-based projects in class to give hands-on experience.
Can I pursue further education after graduation?
Yes. While our school does not currently offer a master’s program, we can recommend institutions that do. Graduates can pursue advanced degrees in areas such as graphic design, visual communication, branding, interaction design, user experience (UX) design, design strategy, digital media, and even interdisciplinary programs that combine design with business or technology.
Will I build a portfolio during the program?
Yes, portfolio development is a major focus. Each semester, you’ll complete professional-level projects to include in your final portfolio.
Is this program suitable for beginners?
Yes! If you’re passionate about visual communication and creativity, this program is for you. We welcome students who are motivated and eager to learn.
Is the program more theory-based or hands-on?
It’s primarily hands-on, with essential theory integrated into the curriculum. We believe in learning by doing.
What are some unique courses in the program?
Our program offers unique courses such as branding, UI/UX design, web coding, motion graphics, packaging design, and interactive publishing. These courses blend traditional artistic aesthetics with modern digital tools, helping students develop versatile and industry-ready skills.
